ITZAM is a Restaurant, Coffeeshop and Cocktail bar in Antigua Guatemala inspired by Mayan culture, where specialty coffee, artisanal mixology and gastronomy come together to create a unique experience.
We created ITZAM in Antigua Guatemala because we wanted to build a gastronomic experience that celebrates one of the country’s greatest cultural treasures: Maya heritage.
Guatemala was one of the great centers of Maya civilization, and many of its traditions remain alive today through the country’s cuisine, ingredients, art, and identity. ITZAM was born from the idea of connecting that legacy with the present: taking elements such as corn, cacao, beans, pumpkin seeds, chilies, tamales, and traditional recados, together with Maya symbols, stories, and art, and reinterpreting them through contemporary cuisine, specialty coffee, and cocktails.
That is why we chose the name ITZAM, inspired by Itzamná, the Maya deity associated with knowledge, writing, time, and creation. Our intention is for the restaurant to be more than simply a place to eat; it is a contemporary and approachable way to discover Guatemala through its flavors, art, and stories.
ITZAM was created to show that Guatemala’s Maya heritage does not belong only to the past: it can remain alive, evolve, and become a contemporary experience of gastronomy and hospitality.
The Maya were one of the most advanced civilizations in the Americas, known for their profound understanding of time, nature, and the cosmos.
They primarily inhabited what is now Guatemala, Mexico, Belize, Honduras, and El Salvador, and left an impressive legacy: stone cities, pyramids, astronomical observatories, hieroglyphic writing, precise calendars, and a cuisine based on corn, cacao, and other agricultural products.

We consider coffee a daily ritual, using methods and specialty coffee from Mayan regions. ITZAM was awarded in 2025 as one of The Best Coffee Shops of Guatemala. We are number #31 of North, Central America and Caribean of the TOP 100 List.
Mayan Cocktails
We take 100% local ingredients and transform them into cocktails inspired by the Mayan pantheon.
We use advanced mixology techniques for infusing our own liquors with traditional Mayan ingredients.
