ITZAM is a contemporary Maya restaurant, specialty coffee shop and cocktail bar in Antigua Guatemala. We cook with ancestral ingredients from the milpa — corn, beans, squash seed, cacao, native chilies and herbs — using both traditional techniques and modern ones, and every dish is rooted in a Guatemalan or Maya preparation.
The day moves in three parts. Mornings are for specialty coffee and brunch. Lunch and dinner shift to a full menu of appetizers, mains and desserts. Evenings bring the bar, where every signature cocktail is built on a spirit we infuse in-house and named for a Maya deity.
The name comes from Itzamná, the Maya god of wisdom, writing and creation.

We're in the historic center of Antigua Guatemala, at 7 calle oriente 15-1. Near Tanque de la Union and Santa Clara ruins.
You can find parking on the streets nearby, not on the red lines. Also, you can park at Hotel Camino Real for a fee.
Antigua's historic center is compact and walkable, so most guests arrive on foot from anywhere within a few blocks.

Reservations are recommended for dinner and strongly recommended on weekends, when we regularly fill. For coffee and brunch during the week you can usually walk in without a wait.
You can book online in a few seconds, or write to us at reservas@itzam.com.gt for larger groups.

Yes, but limited. The Maya diet was some plant-based, our bean salad, the corn croquettes with iguashte and several brunch dishes are vegetarian as served. For vegan and gluten-free, tell your server and the kitchen will adapt.
On heat: chilies are central to Guatemalan and Maya cooking, but almost always as aroma and depth rather than fire. Most of our dishes are gently spiced. We bring chili on the side with every main course at no charge, so you decide.

Yes. We host private events at the restaurant and also cater off-site anywhere in Antigua Guatemala and nearby municipalities — including at historic venues around the city.
We work in three formats: exclusive use of the restaurant with the space closed to the public, large group dining within regular service, and off-site catering with our kitchen and mobile bar.
Both quoted menus and cocktail packages are available, and we adapt dietary requirements at no extra cost with advance notice.
